Thursday, November 07, 2002 ( 1:45 PM ) Sarah Mae I forgot to mention that I got an A on my book critique for my intellectual freedom seminar. :-) This is very good and unexpected. I still have two more assignments for the class, including a 20 page paper. I have not yet figured out what to write on for the final paper. I went to my internship last night. It was busy but not as hectic as Monday. I got there right when all the kids were getting out of school. There were quite a few reference questions to deal with. Even one on the Blair Witch. Nothing too exciting happening. It's supposed to start raining tonight. If it does it will be the first storm of the season. November is supposedly LA's rainy season. We'll see if there's more rain than last year. # Monday, November 04, 2002 ( 8:00 PM ) Sarah Mae The Halloween party kicked ass! I had a great time and ended up staying until the end even though I had a 9 am class the next day. The host told me that if they were giving out prizes I would get one for dancing. He was cute and later walked me to my car. :-) This weekend I watched Emma and Love Jones. I liked both of them but Emma was kind of boring, I much preferred Clueless. Love Jones, was incredible and reminded me how much I want the soundtrack. My internship was busy today. This week is stats week, so we have to keep stats on how many people come to ask questions at the reference desk. There were Many, especially for the hour that I was supposed to be on the desk by myself. It probably wouldn't have been so bad except that I told this woman I would help her look for rentals on the web and had to basically do the whole thing for her. # Thursday, October 31, 2002 ( 2:32 PM ) Sarah Mae This week has been pretty boring. I feel like I'm going to be fighting a cold all quarter. The runny nose is just off and on. Tonight I'm going to a Halloween party. I'm dressing as a flapper. Hopefully it will be fun and interesting, so I can post it. I am actually going to post to my Reading Log today. # Monday, October 28, 2002 ( 8:12 PM ) Sarah Mae Today I went to my internship early because I was supposed to accompany the children's librarian on her school visits. Unfortunately they got moved to Wednesday which is when I work at school. So instead I did more dusty book report and sat at the reference desk. I'm really tired from being up in San Francisco all weekend, but I didn't wear a flower in my hair. :-) # Thursday, October 24, 2002 ( 12:04 AM ) Sarah Mae I called in sick at work today and spent most of the day sleeping. The rest of the day I spent working on my book critique. I called my parents today. They are doing well despite the sniper action. # Wednesday, October 23, 2002 ( 12:58 AM ) Sarah Mae Today at my internship I did more Dusty Book Report, it is slow going and I have about 100 more pages to go. I guess I did about 10 pages in two hours, not very fast. There was a magician in today for a children's program and I watched part of his show. He was really good. I also got to learn Circ desk procedures today, even though I won't be doing that as a librarian. I checked out material, checked in material, paid fines, put a book aside for a hold request, and issued new library cards. Woo Hoo! I am currently working on a book critique for my Intellectual Freedom seminar which is due on Thursday. # Monday, October 21, 2002 ( 8:21 PM ) Sarah Mae I am so pissed off! When I got to work tonight, I found that my coworker had done no work and left me with films to reshelve, interlibrary loan requests to fill, and a whole bin of tattletaping to do. I could understand if the room had been busy during her shift but it was obvious that it hadn't been since everything that was checked out was done before she was on duty. AAARRRGGHH! At my internship today I spent the whole shift doing the Dusty Book Report. It gave me a headache. # Saturday, October 19, 2002 ( 12:40 AM ) Sarah Mae I'm starting a separate blog to talk about the books I am reading. It can be seen here: Reading Log. # Thursday, October 17, 2002 ( 1:54 PM ) Sarah Mae I've got a bit of a cold that started yesterday, so I skipped class this morning to sleep in. I also have been taking echinacea, the wonder herb for colds. I worked some more on the Dusty Book Report yesterday. I am now done with the fiction and am working on the non-fiction, woo hoo! Yes, my life is extremely exciting. # Wednesday, October 16, 2002 ( 12:25 AM ) Sarah Mae Hey everyone! I've had a busy day at my internship today. I started doing the Dusty Book Report for the Spanish collection. This is when I find the books that have not been checked out for at least a year and a half and decide whether or not to keep them. Also, on Tuesdays the kids get out early from school, at one instead of three, so the reference desk is just a zoo between signing people up for computers and answering reference questions. I also read two books today by Francesca Lia Block, Weetzie Bat and Witch Baby. # Monday, October 14, 2002 ( 8:14 PM ) Sarah Mae It's been a pretty uneventful weekend for me. I stayed in bed until 12:30 on Saturday, Sunday, and today. Friday evening and Saturday I spent reading for my Young Adult services class. On Friday night, between watching the WB's scintillating prime time lineup (I really like Reba), I read Smack by Melvin Burgess and started to read Monster by Walter Dean Myers. I enjoyed them but a lot these books we are redaing are pretty depressing. The ones I read for last week were Go Ask Alice by Anon. and A Step From Heaven by An Na. Go Ask Alice was to heavy-handed for me to see as believable but A Step From Heaven was really well written and I could sympathize with the characters. On Saturday I finished reading Monster and then read Forever by Judy Blume and Holes by Louis Sachar, both of which I had read previously and liked a lot. Neither of them are depressing :-). I also cleaned my desk and bookshelf area which was in desperate need. Especially since I had spilled juice on my desk a few months ago and had never thoroughly cleaned it since. Now my the top and underneath my desk is clear of clutter. After all this hard work I needed a break so I rented two movies, Persuasion (of which I really wanted the Gwyneth Paltrow version) and Two Girls and an Guy. Persuasion was kind of boring but well done. Two Girls and a Guy was just plain bad and not even so bad that it's good. I will admit my weakness for Robert Downey Jr. and he was great in Chaplin and the second to last season of Ally McBeal, but this movie blew (as did Restoration which I rented solely because he was in it). It was rated NC-17 but I couldn't see why. There was one sex scene, a lot of cursing, a discussion of lesbianism and a faked suicide but no nudity. In other words, nothing that hasn't been in an R-rated movie. If anyone has insight into this rating let me know. On Sunday I had some friends over and then went to eat at Cafe 50's with Meg. Usually on a Monday I would be going to my internship but since it is Columbus Day, public libraries are closed. Instead I did my laundry and read for class. Now I'm at work, the UCs do not close for Columbus Day. # |
